As we continue to develop our next-generation solutions, we are pleased to announce that we have been recognised by Gartner in their Hype Cycle for Enterprise Networking, 20201 in two separate categories.

Anapaya has been named as a Sample Vendor of Enhanced Internet Services and Telemetry-Based Routing. We believe this recognition validates the innovative approach our solutions take in providing B2B connectivity in a more reliable and secure way.

What is the Gartner Hype Cycle?

“Gartner Hype Cycles provide a graphic representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how they are potentially relevant to solving real business problems and exploiting new opportunities. Gartner Hype Cycle methodology gives you a view of how a technology or application will evolve over time, providing a sound source of insight to manage its deployment within the context of your specific business goals.”2

Anapaya Named as a Sample Vendor

Anapaya is named as a Sample Vendor by Gartner in Enhanced Internet Services and Telemetry-Based Routing. Enhanced Internet Services is positioned on the Innovation Trigger phase of the Hype Cycle and is expected to reach the Plateau of Productivity in 2 to 5 years. Telemetry-Based Routing is positioned on the Trough of Disillusionment and is expected to reach the Plateau of Productivity in 5 to 10 years.

Enhanced Internet Services

According to Gartner, “enhanced internet services are a collection of over-the-top (OTT) internet-based service offerings to improve the reliability and performance of internet-based traffic. Enhanced internet services include features such as optimised, dynamic path determination, performance optimisation and secure, automated tunnel creation. Enhanced internet services may be sourced by enterprise customers or built into SaaS services, and are increasingly relevant due to growing cloud adoption.“

Further, “with the rapid adoption of software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) allowing direct internet access for cloud-delivered corporate applications, enterprises are starting to explore ways of achieving better application performance and reliability across internet connections. Enhanced internet services address the internet performance and reliability gap between SD-WAN and cloud-delivered applications, especially for geographically distributed organisations.“

Gartner says “enhanced internet services enable enterprises to improve reliability and performance for cloud resident applications. It is particularly relevant for organisations using multiple cloud services with a distributed user footprint (global or panregion). These services may also be of value to midsize enterprises moving to an all-internet-based WAN transport.“

Telemetry-Based Routing

According to Gartner, “Telemetry-Based routing dynamically steers and/or influences network traffic based on a broader set of information vs. traditional IP routing. Intelligence is derived from real-time network measurements, such as path latency, server availability, or policies such as circuit cost or data sovereignty. This is different from traditional IP routing which uses a hop-by-hop method based on destination IP address. TBR is typically packaged within a broader offering versus sold as a stand-alone fashion.“

Further, "SD-WAN, CDN, DNS and “middle-mile” acceleration products and services embed TBR functionality to improve performance, cost and/or security in support of enterprise digital and cloud initiatives. This is because while the internet is foundational to modern business communications, the constantly changing nature of it makes predictability, resilience, and performance guarantees difficult to achieve.“

Solutions such as Anapaya boost a business’ confidence in using the internet to send data by making it more predictable, reliable and secure. The report states “Like a GPS may reroute a motorist due to changing traffic conditions, TMR maps the relevant network intelligence to specific routing requests, such that the data is routed by the lowest-latency route, most cost-effective route, bypasses certain countries, etc.“

Gartner suggests that “IT leaders should prefer network services and products that embed telemetry-based routing concepts SD-WAN, CDN, DNS and carrier-based services” and “SaaS and content providers should demand telemetry-based routing techniques from the network services and products they utilize, to maximize potential performance and costs
while delivering content.”
